When I rerun Hitman Pro, it still says I have everything it said before. I deleted everything in the recycle bin and just left the cookies. It seemed to want me to buy the program to delete these. Hitman Pro: It said I had malicious software called Zero Access in the recycle bin plus some tracking cookies elsewhere. Update: I've now run the following based on a question/answer in Microsoft Support: I've now reinstalled Malwarebytes and am running the full scan, but I don't have much hope.
Even the windows update troubleshooter couldn't fix it. Two critical updates need downloaded but can't be. Tried this and found I can't run updates either. One Microsoft Support answer I read told me that maybe I needed to run updates in windows. Then I went through all the steps in /en-us/windows/i-cant-install-microsoft-security-essentials. I even removed Malwarebytes in case it was the problem - conflicting AV software - even though I run both on my other computer. But I have not been able to reinstall MSE. I was finally able to remove Microsoft Security Essentials using Microsoft article at /kb/2483120. So I downloaded Malwarebytes and did the quick scan. Couldn't do it in the typical manner (programs > uninstall). The restore succeeded but MSE still didn't work. My spouse didn't close it properly or something, because then MSE stopped working. Some false internet security program started up.
